CONCLUSION: BODY AND CONTEXT.

The course body and context has taught me a lot more about the usual body we all are forced and conditioned to think.
Its no more just an outer structure of a person/thing. Its more to do with the inside and the process of how something is made.
As an artist or designer, i have now started looking at my creations in a different way.I consider it as a medium to communicate feelings and connect to peoples mind through my work.
The work of barbara kruger has inspired me a lot. From the type she uses, to how she uses human body and her satire to affect anyone that views her work. It evokes your innerself to change in a very strong way.
This class has changed my perspective on how many ways i can use art. I have really started getting ideas that i would consider weird elsewise.
I think a lot of this learning is due to Narendra's style  of teaching us. The freedom of being crazy was something i loved about the class. The group was helpful at all times. in the wall art class, it was really cool as it was my first time doing a wall art. I learnt more about paints in that. Also, 'group effort' and 'how things turn out on a bigger scale' were things i learnt more in this class.

TRAIN OF LIFE

TRAIN OF LIFE

The movie train of life is one movie that was completely crazy and mind blowing. The movie shows imagination and craziness can be an escape to life’s problems.
The whole story of the movie is just a crazy imagination of the main protagonist. The background of the story is in the German concentration camp scene. The ending is pretty sad and also mind-boggling. 
The movie was inspiring to us as artists and designers, when we have a serious issue to deal with we can also deal with it lightly. “Imagination” can be expanded to a very large and crazy extent. The movie also tells us that so many things in life that might seem real at first, might not be real.
In similar manner, so many things that might seem important may turn out to be less important.
It was a movie that looked so completely fine n funny, and had an ending that was very touching.

Overall, the class taught me to have the craziest ideas, with the weirdest imagination and still consider it to be fine.

SKIT ON BODY

On the first day of our class “body and context”, we were told to perform a skit on anything that we understood of the word ‘ body’. Mostly everyone did a skit on the human body parts and how they are related r if they had feelings. So did my group. We made a skit on a dead “body”. It was a very tough skit to create, as our only description about the skit was “body”. I learnt on how many different ways the word body could be interpreted. It was a fun experience as so many funny things came up in everyone’s play. I think apart from the meaning of body, the activity taught us more of creative rapid thinking, time management and also to let go of our inhibitions and get crazy.

The movie “the kite runner” is a film completely based on how much difference a “body” can make. The ‘war’, ‘violence’ is all invented because of our ‘body” and its reaction towards death. 
The movie shows friendship between two young boys Amir and Hassan. Their friendship is something to learn from in the movie. Hassan is the loyal friend to Amir. He takes care of him, fights on his behalf and also takes punishments for him. He is a man of word, even at that young age. That is something everyone must learn.
Whereas Amir teaches us of how friends can be. He, at young age, was a coward and never stood up for someone, or even himself. He wasn’t truthful or trustworthy. I learnt to be aware about such friends, or people in life.
The movie has intense scenes of war and destruction. It teaches me how everything in this world revolves around our body and its reactions.
The emotions like “fear” are very prominent and played upon in this film. The sense of fear brings a man to such a level that in the reaction they either are suppressed or they turn to become terrorists and rebels.
As a designer, it makes me understand how a body is so important to study on.
We must not only look at the physical factors but also the feelings of the body. My work must appeal to someone’s body as well as the mind.
The movie gave me a lot of insights on how design can also be a form of destruction.  How violence in this world prevails all because of one design, FEAR.




MAPPING OF YELAHANKA

MAPPING OF YELAHANKA

We were told about how usually design has only the target market of a Youth Man.  It is very unfair to women, elderly and also children. The roads, the buildings, the stairs, are all very uncomfortably designed towards them.
Our assignment was to map around yelahanka the parts on roads, or the place that was in accessible towards children, women , the elderly and the physically challenged.
Our group went around the place. We found a lot of footpaths that were open and were dangerous for the blind, pregnant women and kids. The footpaths were also very uneven. Anyone could easily get a sprain by twisting their legs or something. The gutters are also open since a lot of time. At a certain place, the pipes have been lying on the footpath as well as the road since May and nothing has been done about that.
As hygiene factor,  a lot of garbage has been dumped on the roads just randomly. The place lacks dustbin or even BMC cleaning.
There are many parks around, which are good quality for people  to relax, job or even come for a small picnic. There are particular parks for the elderly. They’re small and are for the elderly to sit on the benches in a green fresh environment and just talk around.  There is a football ground as well as a basketball court for kids of various ages to play. There is also a childrens park which is for the younger aged kids. That shows that if something needs to be done, it can be done very effectively.
Some stores and footpaths had slope for the wheelchair to pass or just for the reduction of stairs and the effort that follows with it.
It was very astonishing that we don’t notice it in our daily lives but for others it might be a task to just walk on the roads.
As a student of design, it makes me aware of the injustice that’s done to the people when we design anything, Its like a lesson that we must also consider them in our design.
We also learnt how to make a map using our ‘craziness”. It took a lot of time to decide how to go about a crazy map. Even while making  a map, we have to careful about so many things and also how we present it.
It was a good learning.


THE FLYING WHEELCHAIR

THE FLYING WHEELCHAIR


After the mapping of Yelahanka, we were supposed to think of a crazy idea to solve problems for a specific target market.
Our group came up with an idea of a flying wheelchair. The wheelchair would have wings and thrust to support it.The wheelchair would fly so that an elderly person can avoid traffic hazards, footpath issues and potholes. The Flying wheelchair is not just for the old or disabled. It can also be used by a pregnant woman. The concept is that it isn’t meant to fly long distances , it provides just enough power to help someone out when in need.
The idea was meant to be crazy  because these things need some craziness, some weird and different than usual solutions. We artists and designers must believe in being crazy.
We may never know, but sometimes some crazy idea might be very helpful and could become successful.  The ideation of this wheelchair got us through a lot of crazy ideas which expanded our thoughts and made us somewhat wiser (in the crazy sense).

PROCESS of MAKING IT:

When we got on to make it, we had to first draw sketch of the product. We checked on the internet about the aerodynamics for the chair. We studied about how to build a wheelchair, and how to get parts and all from. We went to the junkyard, got the wheels and all. It was a much practical approach to a product. It was exciting as we were getting our fantasy to real life.

As we progressed, we found that the wheels will be tough to put without welding. Many parts were tough to make and were different than we thought it would be. It taught us that things to make are really hard than the sketch. It gave us more practical approach and a few amendments were made.

The Wings were really tough to put, it took a lot of time and thought to make them stand in an erect manner. We put an elastic in the end which helped the wings to be erect.
Only the painting is left which will be completed on the Wednesday.

 our final wheelchair looks like this.  
we silver spray painted the wings, we added propellers. 
we used thermocol for wrapped with newspaper for these. we also fit a cup holder on both sides of the chair.
